Locked Out Of Your PC?
Posted by: | CommentsI had a memorable experience yesterday. A friend was locked out of their PC. Sounds implausible at first, but she generally uses a MAC and had not used this PC computer in a while…Hence, She forgot the password.
The problem! How do you get into the computer to change the password when you have to get into the computer to change the password…you see the problem!
You can guess my initial reaction, but I Goggled this problem. WOW, the number of searches for this issue was astonishing. This must happen to 100′s of people every day.
I found a number of paid solutions. Many of them required access the Administrators password. Now, if we could have gotten to the Administrator’s level, couldn’t we just fix the problem without assistance? I still haven’t figured that one out.
Eventually, I found Ophcrack and we were able to recover the Password for free.
I took this lesson to heart and downloaded a copy onto a CD for myself and put it in a safe place should I ever need it. I suggest you do the same.
Choosing A Hosting Company
Posted by: | Comments
Hosting Companies are like diets. Ask 10 people and you will get 10 different recommendations, leaving you back where you were…or even further confused.
The reason is simple. We are not all looking for the same services. So let’s figure out a few things that will move you in the right direction toward finding a company that will work for YOU.
As always, Google is your friend, so be sure to do your own research.
Here are a few pointers:
- There are way too many reliable “Brand Name” Companies to try an unproven newcomer to the market when you are a beginner yourself. So save your testing for a later date.
-
SO, WHAT QUESTIONS Should you ask? Here are a few suggestions to start with:
- What is their Initial Annual Fee per URL? What is the cost of Renewals?
- What type of Customer Service do they offer? Online Only…Live…What are their Hours?
- Can they Handle Your E-mail Needs? At what cost?
- Do they Provide Hosting and Backup? Is it the service you need?
- Do they have standard Plug-Ins Included? For WordPress, Joomla, Drupal or whatever software you plan to use.
- What type of Control Panel? Standard or C-Panel?
- Do they support PHP and MySQL Databases?
These questions will get you started, but be sure to make your own list of needs that you are concerned about. Write or call and ask your questions. If they don’t answer right away. Well, that tells you the answer to the 2nd question. Go to the next company on your list.
History of Branding

While discussing this topic, I found a fun video online that explores the evolution of some very famous brands. Credit goes to http://garmahis.com.
He took some famous logos and made a morphing video so that you can get a look how Apple, Adidas, Google, Mazda, Walmart, Adobe, Microsoft, Nokia logos have changed since their first logo appeared.
Did you know that Apple’s original logo was Isaac Newton under an apple tree? Or that Nokia’s original logo was a fish (a scary looking one at that)? Evolution of Brands
Enjoy this look at the origin of these famous logos and how they evolved over time.
I recently heard that Pepsi spend $1.4 Million updating the look of their logo. Not bad money for changing the style and colors on a beach ball. Must have been important!
Question. Do you have a brand? Does it need some updating? Does it give a clear and memorable message?
More importantly, if you don’t have a clear brand and logo, perhaps it is time to consider investing some time and money in this most important 1st impression. You may want to consider our 5 step process to discovering a memorable brand with “stickiness” for your online (or Offline) business model.
Branding Your Business

Another great brand “Just Do It” evokes images of great athletic shoes, Tiger Woods and other renowned athletes. Nike took a concept and made it work on a global basis.
Maybe your goal is not to be world renowned or create a global business. However, every business needs to understand this concept at some level, in order to allow their niche market to understand WHO you are, WHAT you offer, and WHERE they may obtain your product.
Here is great video from some experts in the field that will get you started thinking about the branding process from Start Up Nation.
The initial goal of our online and live training at www.kathiminsky.com is to help you determine through a 5 step process what brand best represents your business, what resource you will be to your customer base, a logo or symbol your prospects will attach to your idea and how to implement each step. Blogger vs. WordPress

This is a great subject for me since I have 14 Blogger sites. Franky Blogger has added some great new tools and is, without a doubt, much easier to use. And, I must say that Google has done a great job improving the process.
So, why switch to WordPress? I must 1st mention that I am not talking about WordPress.com (the free version). If that is what you are considering, I would stay where you are. WordPress.org ( the self-hosted version) has many features, plug-ins, cooll templates, etc. that I just couldn’t resist.
The primary motivation, initially, was to own my domain without redirecting it to a .blogspot URL. While the Google algorithms are an enigma at best, it is clear to me that redirecting or forwarding a URL does not help your position in the search engines.
So, WordPress, here I come. I will be sharing great tools, widgets, and plug-ins as I discover more of the OVER 2,000 options.
